Some thoughts on the short-sightedness of Congress...
In Biology there is something called the Predator-to-Prey Ratio.  There has to be enough prey to feed the predators, but not too many predators or they will starve. And if there are too many prey then they over-graze the resources. If the ratio gets out of balance then the bio-system can collapse.  Man has been known to throw nature off balance with some schemes that were not thought-out to the projected future.  For example - taking the resources away from the prey and giving it directly to the predators. Uneven tax laws sound applicable here? Predators who say things like "Poor people chose to be that way." - or - "Anyone can become rich if they just work hard enough."  Or my favorite, "If you don't tax the rich too much, then they will use their money to invest in the economy."

In the Tax-Evasion Plan - the largest predators not only have most of the resources, but they can avoid paying higher taxes on their greater use of resources - leaving the prey population to fight amongst itself for survival.  How long until our economic system collapses from this unbalance?  Or perhaps - we will just slip peacefully into a Caste System...

Here's another lesson from Life Science:
The Food Chain.  Again, a limited amount of resources for survival - food, shelter, space, and safety - called Producers because they are natural products necessary for life. Primary consumers are usually the most in number and demand the most resources.  Secondary consumers are fewer in number, and are still trying to get to the resource supply while also avoiding the Tertiary consumers - those at the top of the Food Chain who can devour Secondary and  Primary consumers AND control the resources.  And to throw in one more contender for resources - how about Introduced Species?  Need I define this consumer population?  The only great equalizer is death - at which time all of the players are eliminated.

OK - now let's step back and look at what America's leaders are doing.  They are providing the poor, disadvantaged and powerless with free health care.  That sounds pretty good.  But it is not the Tertiary consumers - the ones with the largest appetites - who are paying the bill. No - it is the Secondary consumers - the "middle people" who will be paying the added cost of carrying the Primary consumers.  Don't overlook the fact that Tertiary consumers control politicians - thus ensuring themselves even more resources and power!

So what is going to be the long-term results that our brilliant leaders did not foresee with the Affordable Care Act?
1. The poor will have even less motivation to get out of poverty - why get a job that is going to make you pay for something you already get for free?
2. The rich will not feel the increase in premiums - those who own a business will simply hold back pay raises from their Secondary Level personnel to make up for the added benefits cost.  Their profit margins must be protected at all cost.  Why not hire two part-time people to replace the full-time guy who expects a benefits package? Duh!
3.  The Secondary consumers will have less discretionary funds, therefore they will give less to charity. Churches, missions, foreign aid - any nonprofit work will be effected.
4.  With Charities getting less funding, many will fold up - leaving less services for the poor, disadvantaged and powerless.
5.  This may create more Primary consumers, thus increasing the burden on the middle-level consumers. Yes, a downward spiral is my prediction.
6.  The only population that will thrive in this crazy plan?  You already figured it out.

I maintain that anyone who sits their rump down on a seat in D.C. to cast a vote is responsible for setting politics aside when writing any policy.  This is people's lives you are messing with! Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the Sadducees whose political slants closely resemble our Two Party System - one side over-compensates for the wealthy and the other side over-compensates for the poor.  Lord help those of us in the middle!
So the question is - does anyone in Washington have a functioning brain?  If not - then what?
